There might be a metaphor somewhere in this image: Sunlight speckling across the one chair, Where my boys (for only a moment) coexist in relative peace. The light illuminates my sons’ engaged minds: One exploring a book; the other observing his brother. And then, the shadow over the other chair, Where my daughter (usually a fireball of movement) is at rest, Her busy brain temporarily quietened by Wild Kratts or Paw Patrol. (That screen, equal parts my nemesis and my helper, but I digress.) Metaphor or not, this is a moment I want to remember. My three beautiful children, Those old squishy chairs, The late-summer, late-afternoon sunshine. And behind the camera, a tired but heart-full mama Relishing a rare glimmer where all three kids are in frame, Stationary… And content.
